Searching Documents
If you open the EMTO-Database, you will see the following window:
Please note that the keyword-search (Schlagwort) is still disabled. We hope to introduce this feature in the near future. You can locate a text in the database via its author (Autor), (words from) the title (Titelwort), or by searching full texts of the entries (Volltext). As wildcard characters you can use "%" (standing for one or more characters) or "_" (standing for just one character). Entering "%" in the field author (Autor) shows you all titles in the database
Accessing Texts
The results of your search are presented in a list. A click on the link in the field "URL" leads to the Digital Library, which hosts the document you are looking for.

Troubleshooting
If some characters in your search results are not displayed properly, please change the display options of your browser to the UTF-8 coding system.
The navigation within the library and procedures how to read or print the document can differ. Detailed guides for the libraries included in EMTO can be found here:

- Gallica

Search Tips
- Author
- When you search for works of a certain author, be sure to enter first the last name, then the surname ("Descartes, René" instead of "René Descartes).
- Searching a certain subject matter
- When looking for works from a certain subject area, you may use intelligent truncating: Entering "Meta%" in the "title"-field of the search masks give results of all works including e. g. "Metaphysik", "metaphysics", "metaphysica", "metaphysicae" etc. in their title.
- Browsing
- Again, truncating can be helpful here. If you want to see all titles included in the database, simply enter "%" in the author-field of the search mask.
