Using CAMENA

CAMENA (Corpus Automatum Multiplex Electorum Neolatinitatis Auctorum) is a Digital Library developed at the University of Mannheim. It offers free access to approximately 230 volumes, partly as HTML- or XML-files. Besides extensive editions of neo-latin poetry, works of philosophical interest can be found in the sections Historica & Politica and Thesaurus.

Accessing Documents

Step 1: Using the link from the EMTO-Database, you reach a page showing the bibliographical record and a thumbnail view of the document. Since CAMENA does not guarantee the persistence of its URLs, you should integrate relevant parts of this information (e. g. the shelf mark - Signatur) in your citations.

Step 2: In some cases, CAMENA offers HTML- or XML-versions of (parts of the) documents. Since these full texts are merely intended as tools for a more thorough analysis of the texts (e. g. searches), they should not be quoted. In order to access these versions, you must return to the main page of the collection you are interested in (either Thesaurus or Historica & Politica and locate the author you are looking for (in our example Henning Arnisaeus).

Step 3: Clicking on the link with the author's name, you reach this page, presenting a list of all works by this author in CAMENA:

Clicking on the HTML- or XML-buttons leads you to the corresponding full-text versions.
