Using Early English Books Online

Early English Books Online (EEBO) contains about 100 000 documents, and thus about 80 percent of early english prints, as they are listed in Access is restricted to licensed users. More information here.

Accessing Documents

Step 1: Using the link from the EMTO-Database, you reach the title page of the document. The persistence of the URL is guaranteed by EEBO.

Step 2: To navigate, you can use the link next image. Clicking on the link next illustration takes you to the next page containing an illustration.If you move to another page, the URLs change into non-persistent mode: If you want to quote from a document, use the button Durable URL to retrieve the relevant information.

Step 3: If you want to download a complete document, you must select Add this record to your Marked List. Then you click on Marked List in the main navigation menu.

Here you can annotate, print, download or e-mail records you have previously marked. Further information on this can be found in the Help-section of the EEBO-website.

Step 4: If you want to retrieve a complete file of a document, you must click on the link Download Document Image sets in PDF format in the "Marked List". Then you see this page:

Select the range of pages you want to download and press the Download-button. Then your request is processed. Information on the number of pages and the precise size of the PDF-file is displayed. After you have confirmed the download, it starts automatically.
